Magirus-Deutz is a truck manufacturer, fire vehicles, bus and German coach bought by Fiat and encompassed in the Iveco group on January 1, 1975.
In 1864, Conrad Dietrich Magirus founded a company that made trucks and fire vehicles. He then embarked on the construction of trucks, bus and coach until the late 1910s. The brand joined in 1936 to become Klöckner-Humbold-Deutz.
In 1964, with the nascent common market, Magirus-France opened an assembly factory located in Saint-Ouen, which received chassis-cabines from Germany, transported by railway. The French market opens and soon adopts the brand's trucks thanks to short deliveries deadlines, and a competitive sale price compared to French brands. We see more and more on public works sites these robust and economical maintenance trucks.
The emblem of the brand affixed to the grille representing a rocket, is the symbol of the arrow of the Ulm cathedral where the Magirus-Deutz factories are located which still exist.
During the Second World War, Magirus-Deutz trucks were used as Gaswagen.
In 1967, Magirus-Deutz presented his first modernized trucks with an advanced cabin.
In the 1970s, Magirus-Deutz was the second largest manufacturer of utility vehicles in Germany. Magirus-Deutz cooperated with DAF, Volvo and Saviem to train, in 1971, the "Club des Quatre" and produce a medium class model from a cell and a common cabin (MK series for Germany) .
In 1974, Fiat bought 75 % of the capital of Magirus-Deutz and created Iveco on January 1, 1975. Magirus-Deutz became a subsidiary of the Iveco group. Klöckner-Humbold-Deutz kept 20 % of Magirus-Deutz until 1980, then sold all his actions to Fiat. Iveco becomes a branch of the Fiat group 100 %.
The Magirus label still appears on the calendars of the trucks of the Iveco Magirus fire division.
