Tractors manufactured by CNH Industrial are known as Steyr. St. Valentin, Lower Austria, which also happens to be the site of CNH Austria GmbH's headquarters.
n The Steyr factories, which were based in Austria and operated as a weapons industry until 1926, produced firearms, bicycles (dubbed "weapon wheels"), and vehicles ("weapons car"). In 1934, Steyr combined with the Austro-Daimler-Puchwerke AG to become what is now known as Steyr-Daimler-Puch AG. Steyr first experimented with a tractor powered by a gasoline engine in the late 1920s, but it failed to form a straight line. A Type 1500a "halved" V8 gasoline engine was used in the development of a tractor during World War II.
Only the WD 13, built after the war's conclusion, provided the breakthrough; production of the first Steyr 180 tractor models began in 1947. In 1949, the renowned 15 STEYR (type 80) became the most popular model of Steyr tractor (see below). In 1960, the so-called anniversary series superseded the 130 series; the 1964 100th anniversary served as inspiration for the series' titles.
With Louis Lucien Lepoix's plus series design, the business has scored a major design victory that should radically alter the look of future Steyr tractors. Further, the original colours were swapped out for a new combination of red and white, which should nevertheless serve as a guiding principle for the tractors made in Steyr.
Between the years 1988 and 1992, Marshall, Sons & Co. in the United Kingdom received shipments of tractors that were then resold under the company's own name.
In 1990, after the dissolution of Steyr-Daimler-Puch, the tractor division was contracted out to Steyr Agriamaschinen AG, which was subsequently acquired by Case Corporation in 1996. In 1999, Fiat and New Holland united to become CNH Global, keeping the Case name and keeping the Steyr tractor brand separate.
In 2007, the logo was updated to eliminate the traditional crosshair, which had continued to recall the WG's weapons manufacturing.
More than 500,000 Steyr tractors have previously left the factory.
All models are also accessible for municipal and forestry administration.
