UD Trucks Corporation is a Japanese firm that manufactures and sells light, medium, and heavy diesel trucks, buses, bus chassis, and speciality automobiles. The company is also involved in the transportation industry. Since 2007, Volvo Group has owned one hundred percent of UD Trucks' shares. Up to the first of February in 2010, UD Trucks was known under the brand name Nissan Diesel. However, there was a movement toward UD being independent of Nissan Motors even before the name was changed for a significant amount of time. In the beginning, the UD moniker was given to a diesel engine with a direct-flow blowing system and was introduced in 1955.
In 1935, the city of Kawaguchi became the location of the beginning of Nihon Diesel Industries Ltd. (Japan). She started producing two-stroke KD series diesel engines as part of her business. 1940 saw the introduction of the first TT6 truck, which had a carrying capacity of 4.5 tonnes and was manufactured by International. After some time, a truck with a cargo of 7.5 tonnes called the TN93 was built. Shortly after that, the first buses with a load-bearing body and an engine situated behind them were also created. 1949 marked the beginning of production for the TN93 truck.
In 1950, the firm became known as Minsei Diesel Industries, Ltd. after changing names. And she was well on her way to establishing herself as a successful independent maker of transportation apparatus. In 1955, a diesel engine known as the UD, which had direct-flow blowing, was made available to the public (Uniflow Diesel). Additionally, manufacturing engines with capacities of 81 kW, 110 kW, and 169 kW got underway simultaneously. In 1957, the Japanese were the first to design pneumatic suspensions for buses and the 6TW10 freight vehicles, which are more often referred to as "Jumbos."
In 1960, the business underwent yet another name change: Nissan Diesel Motor Co., Ltd. Trucks with front-wheel drive. In 1963, the company produced four-stroke diesel engines with a capacity of 40 kW and 44 kW. These engines came off the production line. In 1969, four-stroke diesel engines with a power of 136 kW and 99 kW were made available for purchase for the first time. The V-type diesel engines with a capacity of 206 kW and 257 kW were first introduced in the year 1972.
1982 saw the production of a cabin for front-wheel drive trucks called the CWA52/45, a series of tractors-tractors called the CKA-T, and an ultramodern series of buses called the U (A) 21, U (A) 31, and RA51. As early as 1985, the business had already manufactured a significant quantity of light, medium, and heavy-duty vehicles, in addition to buses and specialised automobiles. In 1989, an agreement was reached with the Italian business IVECO on the collaborative production of diesel engines that emitted minimal harmful pollutants into the surrounding environment.
In 1992, Nissan Diesel Philippines Corp. and Jonckheere Bus & Coach NV/SA, a firm based in Belgium, began manufacturing pricey international communication vehicles. Two million automobiles were manufactured by Nissan Diesel between the years 1950 and 1995.
Nissan Diesel introduced a new truck in Japan and other Asian nations in 2000. Furthermore, Nissan Motor and Nissan Diesel agreed in 2003 about the combined production of light vehicles and signing it.
The Volvo Group completed the acquisition of Nissan Diesel in 2007. However, following the conclusion of discussions between the top executives of Nissan Motor and Volvo, it was determined that the moniker "Nissan Diesel" would not be altered. And the decision to change the name to UD Trucks wasn't made until the very next day, on the first of February, 2010.
